Our Top Rated Grills Under $200

1. Char-Broil Classic 2 Burner Propane Grill Review – Top Pick

What We Like…

  • Includes side burner and side shelf
  • Wheels for easy storage
  • 2 burners, covered and protected by flavorizers to enhance flavors and longevity of the burners and gas grill overall
  • Lightweight, only 37.5 pounds compared to other hefty gas grills

What Makes Us Angry…

  • Can’t fold and is not ideal for traveling
  • Difficult to assemble, takes slight expertise with tools

This Char-Broil Burner comes with all the accessories of a regular gas grill but at a much more affordable price. This gas grill can be upgraded to feature a side burner that is perfect for those meals that need just a bit extra space.

One of my favorite features is the flavorizers that cover the burners to not only protect but enhance the smokiness of the gas grill that can sometimes lack. The flavorizers add a great enhancement for the money.

This grill can be rolled just about anywhere because there are two wheels on the bottom of the grill. It is a highly functional and affordable grill that gives added cooking space. This grill is perfect for those that enjoy their outdoor grilling sessions and don’t plan on using it at a campsite or picnic. The grill cannot fold and transport easily but it has wheels to be stored away when need be.

This grill is ideal for those who enjoy ample prep space attached to their grill since there are two foldable prep stations attached.

2. Master Cook 3 Burner Grill Review

What We Like…

  • Enough room to fit 15 burgers on the main cooking surface with a warming rack for burger buns
  • Three burners putting out 30,000 BTUs in total
  • Folding side shelves add storage space while also ensuring the grill takes up less room when being stored

What Makes Us Angry…

  • A number of customers complained about the cart being quite flimsy, and igniter failures

If you are looking for a budget gas grill with enough room for a small get-together, this grill fits the bill. It can fit enough burgers for the family and a few friends thanks to the larger cooking area and three burners versus two burners on a number of the other grills on this list. Those three burners are capable of putting out a total of 30,000 BTUs, plenty hot for grilling hot dogs or searing steaks. The burners are covered with protective heat tents which can also help create more flavor when drippings fall and turn to smoke and vapor.

One thing to remember about this grill is that it does not have a push-button ignition system. Instead, the middle knob has the ignition built in, so don’t get caught thinking your ignitor doesn’t work or doesn’t exist.

The grill also has two folding shelves to hold your plates and tools close at hand while grilling. The shelves also fold down when you want to store your grill so it takes up less room, too.

The company boasts that the grill is made out of stainless steel, but the cart itself is fairly thin. Construction can be a bit of a chore with a few customers expressing frustrations with damage occurring during the process or even during shipping.

However, for the amount of cooking space you get, this is a great value. You can cook plenty for a large family or a small get-together and heat the entire cooking surface evenly with the three burners.

3. Weber Q1000 Liquid Propane – Review

What We Like…

  • Portable Friendly
  • Ideal for those who cook for one or two people
  • Simple, user-friendly grill
  • Stainless steel burners

What Makes Us Angry…

  • No flavorizer bars, the potential for the burners to get damaged easily
  • The odd time can be over $200 depending on sales

This compact mini gas grill is perfect for a small cookout on the go. This gas grill is user friendly and comes with no complicated accessories or fancy frills. This grill would be the perfect grill for someone who is looking to have a small cookout while camping or in a park.

It is a tabletop grill that can accommodate a propane tank for easy start-up. Once the propane tank is connected then it only requires a quick start at the push of the button. This grill doesn’t come with flavorizer bars so make sure to always check in after each use on how your burners are looking. It comes with a simple removable drip tray that is removable and interchangeable.

This grill is one of my favorite camping and picnicking gas grills on the market. It is a simple and convenient design with no hidden features or hat tricks.

4. Sophia and William 2-Burner Gas Grill Review

What We Like…

  • Comes with a flat top griddle that allows you to cook food that you otherwise could not on a traditional gas grill
  • Two side shelves give you space for plates of food and a small front shelf is perfect for seasonings or condiments
  • Two burners are capable of putting out a total of 20,000 BTUs

What Makes Us Angry…

  • This is a short grill, just under three feet tall, so if you’re a tall person, be prepared to spend a lot of time bending over

The Sophia & William 2-burner gas grill is ideal for a small family looking for a versatile and easy-to-use gas grill at home. What sets this grill apart from the majority of grills at this price point is the included flat top griddle attachment. Remove the grill grates and what the company calls “flame tamers,” or metal tents that go over the gas burners reminiscent of Flavorizer bars, and place the cast iron griddle on top and you’re ready to make eggs or pancakes.

Speaking of burners, this grill has two burners capable of putting out a total of 20,000 BTUs whether you’re grilling burgers or heating that cast iron griddle for smashburgers. The cooking area is not as big as some other offerings on this list, however. The griddle is only 171 sq in while the grill grates offer 191 sq in.

This grill does offer plenty of versatility as well as storage and prep space. It has two side shelves where you can put plates or platters. It also has a small shelf in the front that can hold seasoning shakers or condiments for serving as well.

The cooking size limits the size of family that this grill is ideal for, but for a smaller family or a couple, this is a fantastic budget option for a gas grill with all the features packed into its small frame.

5. Cuisinart Petit Gourmet Portable Review

What We Like…

  • Compact and easy to transport for camping and outings
  • Has the option for 3 different stand sizes which is ideal for quick outside barbecues and variation in situations
  • Porcelain-enameled steel grate
  • Ergonomic carry handles fits to the shape of your hand
  • Uses far less gas than a regular full-sized grill
  • Lightweight, only 14 pounds

What Makes Us Angry…

  • Only fits up to 9 burgers, not ideal for large family gatherings

This adorable on the go gas grill is ideal for those moments that are unpredictable. This gas grill is one of my favorite on the go grills that offers the feel of a bigger grill if the situation arises.

A factor that is very unique to this little monster of a grill is its adjustable stand. The adjustable stand can move from one size to another in a matter of moments. There are three different adjustable lengths the stand can do. The first is the tabletop, the second is the mini-mid height and the third is the full-size grill length. The legs lock into place so they are stable and perfect for an afternoon of grilling.

In terms of a compact grill, this fits the bid. This grill is ideal for someone who enjoys on the go grilling and occasional grilling. This is not going to be a centerpiece in your backyard anytime soon. This grill has handles that are ergonomically designed to complement your hands’ natural shape. With the user in mind, this Cuisinart Petit Gourmet Gas grill is a small powerhouse that can get a simple afternoon batch of hamburgers done.

6. Char-Broil Tabletop 1 Burner Grill Review

What We Like…

  • Simple, tabletop design with a visible temperature gauge
  • Quick assembly, approximately 30 minutes
  • Great for on the go traveling grillers
  • Has sturdy legs for a tabletop grill experience
  • Limited venting, traps smoke for overall  even heat and potential for more smoky flavors

What Makes Us Angry…

  • No flavorizers or protection for the burners.
  • No tray for grease or debris underneath may be difficult to clean

Featuring a simple and user-friendly design, the Char-Broil Tabletop grill is ideal for grillers that need to do a small batch of burgers for no more than 4 or 5 people. The simple design has the charm of a charcoal grill but has the convenience of a gas grill.

It looks like a miniature charcoal grill for on the go grilling but this tabletop gas grill is affordable and uses gas for quick set up and take down whether you are at a park or camping with friends.

This tabletop Char-Broil grill is ideal for those that don’t need the excessive accessories or additions and just want the ideal on the go grill. It is heavy duty and durable, featuring grids made out of stainless steel. This grill is perfect for the simple camper who craves a hamburger.

7. Martin Portable Propane BBQ Gas Grill Review

What We Like…

  • Removable grease pan for an easy cleanup
  • Warming rack included
  • Tubular burner for a more even heating experience
  • Thermometer integrated on top of the lid
  • Compatible with both high and low-pressure lines

What Makes Us Angry…

  • No flavorizers
  • Short for tabletop use only

This tabletop double handle portable gas grill can accommodate you on your next outing. It is for tabletop use only and the foldable legs compresses for easy transport-ability.

For a compact grill, this offers small hints of accessories to enhance your gas grilling experience in terms of affordability. The grill features a built-in thermometer to accurately measure the circulating heat. This way, you can always know exactly when your burgers are cooked without opening the lid.

Usually, compact designs and to-go tabletop grills do not feature a warming rack but this miniature Martin has a warming rack allowing you to toast buns for an all-around great meal. The warming rack in a grill of this size is rare, and it is one of my favorite features of this portable grill.

The ideal owner of this grill enjoys going and grilling for others at picnics but for no more than 4 people. This grill can comfortably accommodate around 8 burgers.

Benefits of a Gas Grill

There are several perks of finding the right gas grill. Gas grills are one of the two main types of grills on the market. There is the original charcoal grill and then the quick and efficient gas grill.  Some benefits of gas grills include quick heat-up times and easy lighting and ignition. For any novice griller, gas grills are a breeze to use compared to charcoal grills.

Even affordable gas grills usually include quick-start ignition; where it can be turned on and heating in no time. This mechanism is convenient and efficient.  Gas grills can reach full temperatures in just minutes; whereas charcoal grills take patience and tending to. Gas grills are quick for a delicious meal.

Additionally, gas grills can be monitored very closely with gauged temperature control. There is less uneven cooking compared to many charcoal grills. Often, gas grills have a knob that controls the temperature and if you find the right one, there are sometimes even built-in thermometers. Both of these benefits offer close and precise temperature control so you know exactly when your food is ready to serve.

What To Consider When Choosing the Best Gas Grill Under $200

There are a few factors to consider when deciding on the best inexpensive gas grill for you. There are usually two different types of gas grills.

Natural Gas vs. Propane

The first type is natural gas and the second is propane grills. The difference between the two is that natural gas is usually hooked up to a mainline of gas. The later, propane, is usually a tank filled with propane that is hooked up directly underneath the grill. You will most likely run into propane tank gas grills more often. Natural gas grills can take a bit of time to set up. Propane tanks are usually more popular and convenient.

Flavorizers/Flavor Bars

These are the heart and core of a good gas grill. Even if it is a budget friendly gas grill, flavorizers, and lot of them are a must. These bars that protect the hot burners underneath do more than just protection. They allow for the falling juices to be evaporated and produce smoky flavors under the hood. Flavorizer bars are important; the more the better. There is more potential for smokiness which can amp up the efficacy of your gas grill.

Venting

One of the simple ways you can get the most for your money is to understand the venting systems in gas grills. Usually, a company will charge more for extra burners and extra space but they wouldn’t charge you more for less venting. It sounds crazy but with venting, you want less and not necessarily more.

Venting systems in gas grills are important but there is no reason to have all of the smoke and fumes escaping immediately. The ideal venting system is a thin long crack in the back of the hood. This won’t allow for all of the juice smoky fumes to escape and can really amp up your grilling game for less. However, vents are necessary but grills that have excessive venting are missing out on the trapping of potential precious smoky flavors!

What To Consider When Buying An Inexpensive Gas Grill

Since you are looking for an inexpensive gas grill option, some compromises might need to be made. It is important to compromise on the fancy extra additions like side burners and grill hooks but do not compromise on durability. An affordable gas grill doesn’t have to be a “use once then throw away” type of deal. There are many durability factors to look out for. For example, the type of metal that it is made out of, the grids, and the warranty. All of these will allow you to get the most for your money.

Which Inexpensive Gas Grill Fits You Best

It is important to understand that some grills will compliment you and your needs better than others. If you need an affordable grill but you love to cook a variety of meats and vegetables, then finding one with several burners is important. Someone that enjoys cooking a good burger and steak every few weeks will need a different grill than the person that can imagine a family dinner without one. Consider your preferences when choosing the best affordable gas grill for you.

Conclusion

Choosing the right grill for you to enjoy and love for years to come can be a daunting task but now you know what to look out for when deciding which direction to head. Our overall choice for the top gas grill is the Char-Broil 2 burner propane grill. This grill is an inexpensive and all-encompassing gas grill for a fraction of what other companies will make you pay. This grill features cast iron grids and stainless steel burners and flavorizers for long-lasting satisfaction. It is important to know what you need out of a grill and finding the right grill for you and your needs, and there is no reason to break the bank with these choices all in an affordable price range.
