Spread the love

It wasn’t that long ago I finished my long-term review of the Masterbuilt Gravity Series 600 Charcoal Smoker and Grill. And it looks like I had great timing with the start of the new year as the newest member of the family, the Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1150, was just announced in late January 2025.

Features Of The New Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1150 Charcoal Smoker & Grill

The biggest, no pun intended, selling point of the new Gravity Series 1150 Charcoal Smoker & Grill is its size. But size alone a smoker does not make. So, what’s this smoker got to offer?

Wide Temperature Range

Just like the Gravity Series 600 smoker I reviewed, the 1150 boasts a nice, wide temperature range. If you’re looking to smoke brisket or pork butts, this smoker can stay nice and steady at 225°F. If you’re looking to get great grill marks on a steak or reverse-seared tri-tip, this smoker is capable of cranking the heat up to 700°F. You’ll get great grill marks, especially with the specialty grill grates.

Reversible Cast Iron Grill Grates

One of the coolest details on my Gravity Series 600 smoker is the reversible cooking grates. And those same grates are on the new 1150. On one side, handily labeled “Smoke”, the grates come to a thin point to ensure as much surface area of the food is exposed to the smoke.

But on the other side, labeled “Sear”, the cooking grates widen to a large, flat surface. This results in beautiful wide grill marks when you crank the temperature. So if you’re a fan of grill marks on your burgers or steaks, the Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1150’s grill grates will deliver.

Cabinet Cart

One of my favorite new features of the Gravity Series 1150 is the cabinet cart. My 600 just has an open bottom shelf which is fine. But I love the cart for storage. Masterbuilt says not to store flammable materials in the cabinet during usage because hot ash could fall into the cabinet and potentially catch anything on fire. But I definitely like the idea of having a quality place to store stuff when I’m not using the smoker.

Also, there are awesome little storage details throughout the cabinet area. Those air intake slides that you pull every time you fire up your smoker? There are now spots on the inside of the cabinet doors to slide them into for storage. That’s a great touch in my opinion.

There is also space for storing cooking grates and additional accessories like a griddle or pizza oven. And on the back of the cabinet, there’s actually a cord wrap spot for storing the electrical cord when you’re not using the smoker. That’s a huge upgrade in my opinion.

The cart also rides on four three-inch swivel casters, two of which are locking. If you like to be able to move your smoker around to the best possible cooking spot or to store it in the offseason, these casters will make it a breeze.

Digital Controller

At the heart of the Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1150 is the digital controller. This is where you set your temperature, plug in up to four meat probes for monitoring internal temperatures, and hook up to your Wi-Fi to connect to the Masterbuilt App. Unlike the 600, the 1150 has its digital controller right in front of the charcoal hopper. This frees up space to extend the folding front shelf all the way to the edge of the left shelf.

My Final Thoughts On The Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1150

I love my Masterbuilt Gravity Series 600. Everything I’ve cooked on it tastes phenomenal, thanks to cooking with actual charcoal and wood. And so when I heard about the new Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1150, I was excited.

And honestly, it looks like Masterbuilt delivered. I love the upgrades with the storage cabinet cart and the longer folding shelf. So if you liked my review of the 600 but wanted something with more cooking space, the 1150 will be right up your alley.
