Weber vs Nexgrill

Over the past few weeks, I have come across quite a few people who are finding it difficult to pick a grill. If you walk into any Home Depot and check out their grill department, you will mainly see grills from two certain brands. Nexgrill and Weber make up a large area of Home Depot’s grill offering. What follows, is questions like “Is Weber better than Nexgrill?”, “Does Weber make Nexgrill?”, “Are Nexgrills any good?” and so on.

So, we’ve decided to put together what we know about grills made by Weber and Nexgrill to determine which is a better choice of the grill and why.

Nexgrill vs Weber – Overall Comparison

BBQ enthusiasts are so intrigued about just how close these two brands fare in the market. While they both bring to the table some unique, power-packed and versatile features, it is hard not to compare them with one another. As it turns out, both Weber and Nexgrill are solid contenders of the grilling world and have their advantages over the other.

NexgrillCompany History

Founded in 1993, Nexgrill Industries Inc. deals primarily with the manufacture of stainless steel gas grills, outdoor and indoor seasonal products and also, outdoor kitchen innovations. Over the years, Nexgrill made its mark in the grilling game with its searing side burners, energy capabilities, multiple heat zones, infrared heat plates, customizable grids, and other such features.

Nexgrill headquarters are located in Chino, California. Contrary to popular belief, these grills are not made in the USA but are imported ready-made from China. To some people who prefer a grill made in the USA, this might come as a surprise.

Apart from its revolutionary grilling, the firm guarantees supplies of accessories like stainless steel kitchen food prep carts, stainless steel finish patio heaters, stainless steel partial grills, outdoor fire pits etc. Unfortunately, some of the grills sold under the brand name of Nexgrill are not exclusive to the brand and can be seen sold under other brands like Member’s Mark, Grill Master, Jenn-Air and even Kitchen Aid. This is quite common in many industries and it is called private labelling. Let’s have a look at the key lines offered by Nexgrill.

Evolution

The Evolution series is a gas grill series that gives you the flexibility of cooking with various combinations of direct and infrared heat. The Evolution is large with 5 burners which provides 57,000btu of cooking power. Economical is the name of the game with Nexgrill and for the amount of features the Evolution has, you’ll be surprised by the low price. Keep your eye on the warranty offering. 1-year is standard.

Nexgrill Evolution 5 burner

Revelry

Nexgrill’s newest premium BBQ, the Revelry series is a combination of durability and design. In a more aesthetically pleasing exterior, the Revelry comes with premium upgrades such as cast iron lid end caps, pull out propane tank tray, and a built in smoker box. At night turn on the led lighting to easily see your controls.

Weber Grills

A product of Weber-Stephen Products LLC. Founded in 1893, this brand is an American manufacturer of top-class grill accessories, electric outdoor, gas and charcoal grills. George Stephen Sr, one of the co-founders of Weber, is also known for his invention of the original charcoal kettle grill in 1951. Since its inception, Weber has been rising steadily to become one of the most loved BBQ brands among enthusiasts.

Weber grills are assembled and produced in Illinois, where the headquarters are located. Similar to the Nexgrill, Weber grills are not produced in the USA but components of the grill are imported. The Weber Spirit II and the Genesis II are currently manufactured in China.

In a nutshell, Weber grills come in a wider range of options and are available for almost any budget, capable of fulfilling most of your grilling needs. The quality of materials used and the grilling experience with these grills are testimony to this. These are the key lines offered by Weber:

Spirit

A gas line grill, the Spirit series comes in a wide array of options that range in price and design. In an elegant design, these grills are easy to navigate as they feature some very useful systems including convenient features like electronic ignition, prep shelves, etc. The Spirit series is the introductory line of Weber. Quality meets affordability.

Genesis

Another gas line grill, the Genesis series feature grills that are in an attractive, sleek design and a variety of colors. Though they come in various sizes, they are larger than the Spirit series. With more options, sizes and upgraded materials, this makes up the mid-range line of Weber. The Genesis line is a high quality line intended for the avid grill enthusiast. This is for someone will pay more for the finer things in life.

Genesis E-335

Summit

The Summit series features charcoal or gas options and is considered to be the premium choice offered by Weber. Of powerful design and size, these grills stand out among all other products offered by the brand. Every possible option is made available and you will pay dearly for them.

How Is A Nexgrill Different From A Weber Grill?

As means of a reference let’s consider the Nexgrill Evolution 2-Burner and the Weber Spirit II E-210. These represent the closest means of comparison between the 2 brands. We will be considering heat output, durability, technology, performance, design, price, and maintenance as factors.

Heat Output

  • Based on heat output, the Nexgrill carries a total of 28,000 BTUs of searing power as against 26,500 BTUs by Weber. This difference is negligible.

Cooking space

  • Nexgrill features a total cooking area of 450 sq. in. (385 sq. in. of primary cooking surface and 65 sq. in. of warming rack). Weber also covers 450 sq. in. of total cooking area that includes a warming rack of 95 sq. in. Though the dimensions are almost the same, Weber is sleeker when compared to the stocky build of the Nexgrill.

Cooking performance

  • Weber uses higher quality grill grates and heat shields which leads to more consistent temperature zones and beautiful sear marks that cannot be had on the Nexgrill.

Cleaning and Maintenance

  • With the grease management system common in both grills, cleaning is a breeze in both. A temperature gauge and fuel indicator make both models simple and easy to use.

Technology and Durability

  • The Weber Spirit is really focused on no frills but quality materials that will bring a long lasting grill. Nexgrill comes with a the infrared burner design which can bring searing high temps that the Weber cannot hit.

Warranty

  • Weber trumps Nexgrill in the Warranty department. 10-year warranties are standard on Genesis and Summit series with Weber, whereas Nexgrill is a 1-yr warranty.

Price

  • Weber grills are higher priced than their competitors and it is true in this case too. While both the grills have their advantages, the Nexgrill is more affordable for almost the same features making it better value for money. However, the materials in the Weber and warranty offering makes it obvious who offers the higher quality product.

The Nexgrill being an introductory type of grill is better compared to Weber’s Spirit range as it is the technical equivalent to the introductory line of Weber grills. However, owing to its large cooking area and grilling capacity, the Nexgrill stands against Weber’s Genesis range.

Weber grills have fewer burners than the Nexgrill, and what it falls short in burner count, it makes up for in optimum performance. Weber grills are designed to heat around 500-600 degrees Fahrenheit on the higher side, as against Nexgrill’s erratic temperature control (the burners don’t heat as soon as Weber, and the light-weight construction makes it difficult to retain heat. As Nexgrill comes only in 4, 5 and 6-burner varieties, it is better compared to the Weber Summit line that offers 4 to 6-burner grills.

Is Nexgrill Owned By Home Depot?

Owing to the blurred classification of grill lines by Nexgrill, and the fact that these grills are sometimes sold under other manufactures as well, Nexgrill is often confused to be owned by Home Depot. In reality, Home Depot is an online home improvement retailer that offers its customers an assortment of building materials, home improvement products, and caters to home improvement installation services.

Home Depot is an important supplier of various products and accessories under Nexgrill, but by no means owns the brand. Nexgrill is owned by Nexgrill Industries Inc. that manufactures and supplies grills and heaters.

Weber and Nexgrill both bring smart technology to the gas grill

Weber Smart Grill App

As grilling technology has improved, it appears that most of that development goes towards pellet grills. Well, both Weber and Nexgrill decided to share the wealth with their gas grill lines. Weber introduced the CONNECT system, compatible with the new 2022 Genesis line as well as the Spirit SX-315 that we’ll discuss later.

Nexgrill got into the smart gas grill game with the Neevo series of smart gas grills. We’ll be taking a look at the Neevo 720 later in the breakdown so you can see how they’ve done.

Weber vs Nexgrill – A General Comparison

Both Weber and Nexgrill have garnered the attention of BBQ enthusiasts with their offerings. While some factors in both the grills work on similar lines, as the size of cooking spaces, grease management system and infrared technology, some things set them apart too.

Weber grills come in a sleeker, sophisticated design, unlike the Nexgrill which tends to be slightly clunky.

When it comes to price, Nexgrill is a more budget-friendly option. Having said that, many grilling enthusiasts are willing to pay the price for Weber grills that are known for their fantastic durability, superior quality materials used and professional set-up.

While grills from Nexgrill focus more on economy and low cost features, you will find Weber taking on a more innovative outlook that focuses on making grilling a technology-friendly, easier process.

I mentioned earlier that the warranty from Weber is far superior to Nexgrill especially in the Genesis line. A 10-yr warranty covers you from a lot of problems. Piece of mind is worth something.

Your Call, Your Choice

The best grill depends on what you consider the most important in your choice of the grill. Considering the main factors of an efficient grill like price, heating output, durability, and searing performance, Weber emerges as a clear winner of the two of them.

Weber’s long experience in the grilling game has led to insight-driven, thoughtful products that might be priced higher than their peers in the market, but is the best value for your money. Keep in mind resale values of these grills. Maybe in 5 years you want to upgrade to a larger model or Weber has something brand new. You’ll have a much easier time selling your used Weber grill vs Nexgrill. Its premium quality products produce consistent results and can stick around for years with just a little upkeep. Speaking of upkeep, checkout our article on how to clean a gas grill.

Weber’s quality is a testament to the majority of positive reviews we hear around its products, and customers willingly switch to, or loyally staying with the brand over years.

Hope we helped you decide between these two grills. We have more Weber comparisons here.

  1. I have had the nexgrill 5 burner pile of junk for 1 year. If you want it you can look for it in the landfill. Worst grill I’ve ever owned. There is no happy point when adjusting it. Either steak takes 2 hours to grill or it’s in fire. Setting it is a nightmare. I hate it will never buy another

    • Hi Bruce,

You prove that you get what you pay for. I agree that the Weber is the superior product but you need to have the budget for it. Good luck on finding your next grill.

  2. I have owned a Weber and their warranty is a little deceiving. My Weber grilled fine but the cabinet rusted out as the design allowed water to accumulate at the base, near where the doors open. The cabinet does NOT have a 10 year warranty, even as the design is flawed. Of course, you can buy a new cabinet but you might as well buy a new grill. Consequently, I decided to buy the Nexgrill and have been very pleased with the operation and cooking results. Best decision I have made…..I paid 50 percent of the cost of a Weber, and when it fails in a few years, I’ll buy another without question.

Best decision I have made…..I paid 50 percent of the cost of a Weber, and when it fails in a few years, I’ll buy another without question.

Thanks for commenting about your experience with the Weber and a NexGrill. What Weber grill model did you own?
      Thanks
